​Maggie Contreras is a producer and director behind films tackling a wide range of subjects, from comics to solar energy. Gilbert chronicles the life and career of beloved and intensely private comedian Gilbert Gottfried. The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 and was distributed by Gravitas Ventures with exclusive SVOD on Hulu. Audience Award-winning Jonathan Scott's Power Trip (PBS Independent Lens 2020, Hot Docs Film Festival 2020) is the titular HGTV celebrity and activist's journey across the USA to examine the corrupt and antiquated utility monopoly system and how solar holds the key to energy freedom.

Her digital series have been been seen on AMC, NFL Network, and Quibi. She recently worked with major brands to create and direct digital campaigns around the 2021 awards season. This year, her film about the intersection of comedy and social justice was installed in The Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

She formerly ran Future You Media/BRKLY where she produced network promos and as well as documentary content.

Her foray into the documentary world was as a publicity consultant, helping to shape the campaigns for nearly twenty documentary features at Sundance alone. Her contributions to feature films include AMPAS nominees Exit Through the Gift Shop, The Invisible War and Twenty Feet From Stardom, which went on to win an Oscar. Having spent time in development, Maggie has cultivated strong relationships with brands and network partners. She continues to develop projects for film, television and digital.

Maggie grew up with a foot in two distinctly different worlds. Her paternal grandparents are Mexican immigrants who walked to Tucson, Arizona where Maggie was born and raised. She spent every summer growing up and eventually moved with her family to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where her mother is from.

As writer/producer, Maggie sold a scripted series in the UK, co-written with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. She holds holds a B.A. from The George Washington University and studies at Boston University and The London Dramatic Academy.

She is an interfaith activist and was a part of President Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge where she worked with college students to promote understanding and collaboration between diverse communities in an effort to contribute to the common good.

She was a competitive equestrian, treaded the boards spouting Shakespeare in London, loves bugs and has definitive opinions on The Muppets as a whole and as individuals.
